Clinical Therapist

No one comes into drug and alcohol treatment on the wings of victory.  Most often when I meet my clients, they are grappling with some combination of significant pain, humiliation, and fear.  Their families are suffering, too.  Nobody planned for this.

As a recovering addict myself, I get it.  I respect the path my clients walk as they create a new, drug- and alcohol-free life for themselves.  As a clinically licensed counselor, my focus is on using evidence-based techniques to support people as they deal with the consequences of their addictions and the unique personal causes that made it seem like a reasonable choice for them to turn to alcohol and drugs.

Although there is no one path to recovery, my goal in treatment is to help clients identify what matters to them in their sober lives and then to engage with those values and activities through meaningful action.  This process is joyful, it’s optimistic, and it can be very, very hard for people whose lives in addiction may have alienated them from their best qualities.

Early sobriety is a time to rediscover that the best of who we are is not lost.  The great privilege of my career is bearing witness as people who have been hurt, who may be shame-filled or raging or frightened become loving, present, capable human beings who don’t have to hurt themselves or others.

In addition to addiction counseling, my practice focuses on treating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.  Prior to coming to Providence Farm, I was Clinical Manager and National Trauma Specialist at Insight Behavioral Health in Chicago, IL.
